Mission Statement

The Palestine Twinning Campaign is a Goldsmiths Students' Union campaign twinned with al-Quds Open University (QOU) that aims to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine and promote solidarity and dialogue with Palestinians.

What we do

We hold video conferences with students at Palestinian universities to discuss the situation in Palestine. We also aim to hold online discussion forums with students and staff from al-Quds Open University in order to gain a better understanding of the conditions in the university and Palestine more generally.

We organise trips to Palestine to continue the communication between our universities, and we aim to help facilitate visits to Goldsmiths from al-Quds Open University representatives. We also aim to encourage Palestinian academics, particularly those based in London, to give presentations and lectures to students at Goldsmiths. We hold weekly meetings and provide a newsletter about the campaign to encourage more students to get involved.

We aim to raise awareness about Palestine by organising events, talks, fundraising, stalls and exhibitions at Goldsmiths and informing the student body about activities elsewhere in the UK.

We aim to express solidarity through political activism at Goldsmiths to emphasise our support for the Palestinian cause, and to pressure our own government to end its support and complicity with the occupation. This includes joining international initiatives (such as boycotts, protests etc) and also working with local and national organisations.

We aim to continue facilitating the Palestinian scholarships won in the 2009 student occupation of Deptford Town Hall, and to overcome outstanding obstacles in this process.
